This is one of the Cape's top Chenin Blancs, having a loyal following locally and internationally (known as De Tradisie (the tradition) Chenin Blanc). The wine undergoes fermentation in seasoned barrels resulting in a style that is elegant, bone-dry and refreshing, almost Burgundian in texture and mouth-feel.
Incredible complexity is the hallmark of every vintage, partly through us "blending terror". The grapes are from very old, low-cropping bush vines in four different parcels, two in the Bottelary Hills (De Bois and Roos), one in the Polkadraai (Joubert) and the forth in the Helderburg area (Bredell).
The De Bois block faces north easterly and the vineyard is situated at the top of the hill on a geographical fault line, ensuring unique shale soils. The Roos block is at the top of the western end of the hills, sloping north westerly. This is as granite-based soil as one can imagine with granite boulders surfacing throughout the vineyard. Imagine the ordeal transporting the grapes down the mountain - so if there are any chopper pilots out there with a liking for this wine, give us a call!
